Participation in the event can provide an opportunity to showcase a city/community as forward thinking and to develop public-private partnerships within cities/communities. Interested parties will be connected to those sponsors. Requirements for participation are: two involved entities, a site location and a project idea. All projects should be able to be replicated and should provide a foundation for other cities/communities to adopt. The projects should be linked to developing a smart city. These teams are to collaborate across industry and develop Internet of Things (IoT) projects. The challenge is open to any organization or individual across the globe willing to participate in a team on a voluntary basis. This challenge aims to advance technology in the direction of developing smart cities/communities. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has teamed with US Ignite to provide the Global City Teams Challenge.
